Almost super woman

Today I had a brief moment when I felt like I had it together. I had spent a wonderful day in DC with one of my dearest friends, came home, made homemade chicken soup, and managed to get the dishes done as well! I also was able to wrap Jon's presents, get his card ready, and set up the table for breakfast tomorrow! Wow, so impressive.

It was a glorious moment. Then I tried to bake a cake.

It began while the oven was pre-heating. Smoke began streaming from the stove, and I realized there was still oil left on the bottom of the oven from last night's dinner. Alas. Well, I thought, I'll just let it burn off. But as the kitchen and dining room began filling furiously with smoke, I realized it would be impossible to work in the kitchen while all the smoke was coming off.

So I halted the cake making, and set the oven to "clean." This requires our three fans to be strategically placed about the house to funnel the smoke out the dining room window. [my cousin Emily helped me figure this out!] And the smoke poured and poured, until finally at long last the oven was clean. (on a side note, I unfortunately left the oven racks in there - they seem to be okay....)

Hurray! Back to the cake. I was making good progress, until I realized I had forgotten to pick up eggs!  and icing! Ah! So off to the 24/7 grocery story I went! Upon returning, I was able to successfully make the cake, it is cooking in the oven as we speak. And I'm very grateful for 24/7 grocery stores.

So tonight I turned the oven on and off 4 times, had to put the house in disarray to accommodate the fans, have a kitchen full of dishes yet to clean, and the feeling of having it all together is but a fleeting memory. And I'm okay with that! We're happily married, happily safe, and happy to be together.

Thanks for reading!
